Project OP-Zuid: Prove DVOC-system for plantstress from VOC's in indoor farms

Partners: 7-Steps & EMS B.V.

Project: OPZuid EFRO 2021-2027 subsidy

The project "DVOC-system for plantstress from VOCs in indoor farms" aims to develop a well-functioning detection and warning system for indoor farms, which will be tested and validated under operational conditions for three reference crops. The expected result includes not only an operational system, but also a detailed business case for market introduction. Upon achieving the set goals and results, the system can be quickly scaled up to other crops in indoor farms, increasing the financial potential and having a significant impact on the food transition. The project contributes to better management of cultivation risks in indoor farms, allowing indoor farming to become a fully-fledged and sustainable cultivation method.

This groundbreaking project stems from a collaboration between two SMEs from Zeeland and North Brabant, who have combined their expertise in sensor technology. Indoor farm Seven Steps To Heaven (SSTH) from Eindhoven, North Brabant, is collaborating with Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) from Sint Annaland, Zeeland.

The development of the detection and warning system is made possible in part by the awarding of an OPZuid EFRO 2021-2027 grant. As a result, this project is co-financed by the European Union and the Province of Zeeland.
